Maria Elena Kyriacou is the wonderful artist who will represent Greece in the 60 th anniversary of Eurovision Song Contest. She lives in Larnaca, Cyprus, and she is mom of three children. She is philologist professor; she manages her own learning center, while in parallel give voice lessons.
The importance of music in her life came paradoxically, a few days before an exam for the university went for a few days in a monastery to be able to read in peace, and because there was not listening to music she realized how important it is for her life.
Her talent showed up early at the age of 20, a record company made a proposal in order to promote her talent and enter her dynamically to music stardom, but she refused because she wanted to do studies and found a family.
She entered «The Voice of Greece» after an application that her brother along with one of her friends did; because she, as she says, did not have the guts. In blind audition she impressed the four coaches, who agreed to have excellent voice and interpretation, while the world embraced her from the first moment!
In Greek Final she gained the hearts with her wonderful voice that won audience and jury. The song that will represent Greece in the scene of Vienna called «One last breath». The music is by Efthyvoulou Theocharous & Maria Elena Kyriacou and the lyrics by Vangelis Konstantinidis & Evelina Tziora. In the stage of Eurovision will perform beside the Cypriot musician and composer Efthyvoulou Theocharous.

Efthivoulos Theocharous was born in Cyprus. He studied music, piano, technology music and production at the Five Towns College of New York, and he has worked as a composer and piano soloist in New York, Germany, Athens and Cyprus.
He has composed music for well-known Greek singers. Besides composing, he has orchestrated, produced, planned and sound recorded albums for major Greek artists, including the 2005 ESC finalist Helena Paparizou, and winning several gold and platinum record awards. Within 2014 he undertook the production, orchestration and sound recording of Maria Elena’s first album as the winner of last year’s “The Voice of Greece”.
At the same time during the past few months he has been working for musical productions, as a vocal and music professor, and as a director and piano soloist at Maria Elena’s concerts.
We have the great pleasure and honor to host on our website Mrs. Maria Elena Kyriacou and wonderful musical Efthyvoulou Theocharous.
Well Maria - Elena, you are not only the "Voice" of Greece but also the representative of the 60 th Eurovision Song Contest with the companionship of the wonderful musician and composer Efthivoulos Theocharous. How do you feel about this distinction?
For me to be a member of Eurovision is a childhood dream that finally took shape. Both Efthivoulos and I are excited for this victory but simultaneously moved from the confidence that Greek public show us. This course gives a great responsibility and a lot but a lot of work and we are sure that everything will be fine.
With Efthivoulos you co-write the music of the song "One last breath", whose lyrics were written by Vangelis Konstantidis and Evelina Tziora, how do you feel about the final version of the song, and what "One last breath” means for you both?
Maria Elena: The song in its final form is what we had in mind with Efthivoulos when last December we wrote the first notes. For me especially is a very personal song because it speaks of love, separation, pain. For experiences that I have lived since now, the love was always a major role in my life.
Efthivoulos: For me this piece and everything that carries my signature are always pieces of my soul. It is an altar on which rests all the emotions that conquers me the current moment. So for me it is a very personal song that I wish to express the world.
Maria - Elena, Eurovision has always been one of your artistic dreams or suddenly emerged? And respectively, Efthivoulos, what is your relationship with the contest of Eurovision, as an artist you follow the music events of the competition?
Maria Elena: As I said before, I have always been a childhood dream. It was also of the main reasons that always watched the contest.
Efthivoulos: This is my first involvement with the contest as a participant, but each time I watch the competition I find many gems between the songs. The options that Eurovision gives to a composer; getting “smells of sounds” from different countries is not just impressive, but can also be a source of inspiration.
The result of your collaboration now belong to the history of the longest song contest in the history of Europe, have you both realized it as an idea? What are your expectations from the semi-final of May 19 th?
The truth is that the limited time until May forced us very quickly to realize what has happened because we had to start preparing immediately. Beyond that, we expect first qualification from the semifinal and then everything is open. We hope to have primarily a look that will make Greeks proud and wish it to be combined with a good result.
Efthivoulos your collaboration with Maria - Elena emerged only for the Eurovision Song Contest, or you are planning to surprise us with new creations in the future?
Cooperation with Maria Elena began last summer. Already in her first album released included one of my songs "Ehis afisi epohi." We are in the works for other beautiful things for the future.
This year Greece represented by two wonderful Cypriot artists, and we are very happy with the return of Cyprus in the contest, would you like to tell us a few words about the Cypriot participation with Giannis Karagiannis and the song “One Thing That I Should Have Done”;
We both love very much the song of Cyprus. It has the same philosophy with “One Last Breath”. It is based on simplicity, melody and interpretation. John is a very talented man and his success in the competition is sure!
Maria - Elena if you were given the opportunity to represent Cyprus in Eurovision, will you give a try?
Of course I would. For me Cyprus and Greece are the same. This year the proposal came from Greece, in the future I will not rule out a possible attempt for Cyprus.
Thank you for the great honour hosting you in our site, and moments before the end of this interview would you like to send a message to the Greeks, Cypriots and foreigners supporters?
We hope you like our song and voted by many people! Enjoy all the competition and not forget that this is a celebration of the peoples of Europe. This is much more important than any scoreboard.
